Custom color management!

  • May 4th, 2025

We are excited to announce a feature many of you involved in professional workflows have been asking for: SheepIt now supports custom color management configurations!

What Does This Mean for You?

Until now, renders on SheepIt primarily relied on Blender's default color management settings. While this works great for many projects, workflows demanding specific color spaces – like ACES or custom studio pipelines – require more control to ensure color accuracy and consistency from your workstation to the final render.

With this update, you can now ensure that the colors you see in your Blender viewport are exactly the colors that get rendered across the hundreds of computers on the SheepIt network.

How Does It Work?

It's simple!

1. Locate your local custom color management folder and make a copy in your project folder next to the .blend file that you select to get rendered.
2. Rename the folder to "OCIO"
3. Make sure the OCIO folder contains a config.ocio (it has to be named that way)

Once your .blend file with the packed OCIO config is uploaded, SheepIt will automatically detect and use it for rendering your frames.

We believe this update will be a significant benefit to many users and further establishes SheepIt as a powerful rendering resource for the Blender community.

Go ahead, give it a try with your next color-critical project! As always, we rely on your feedback, so let us know how it works for you via the forum or Discord.

A special thanks you to MegaMiley who has made the core code of this feature.

Happy Rendering!
